The Taming of the Shrew

The 2010 season of William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew in Kings Park & Botanic Garden marked the second production for Shakespeare WA. After 10 years absence, the Bard’s ever-popular battle of the sexes made a welcome return to this perfect Perth setting under the direction of international Shakespearean, Paige Newmark.

Nick Candy, Lucentio

This is one of Shakespeare’s funniest comedies and is as pertinent today as it was when written 400 years ago.

Reviews

Newmark recreated his hilarious 1960’s style production of Shrew that was previously applauded as “a sexy, inventive and ultimately brash version of The Taming of the Shrew that, at long last, suggests a forward-looking, innovative stance.”

In 2010 The Taming of the Shrew was a great hit with audiences and reviewers alike. The West called the production a “Shrewd adaptation”, whilst the Post said that “Shakespeare WA’s latest Bard broadside a must see” and Scoop Magazine listed The Shrew as their number two choice under “10 Things you must not miss this summer”.
